When you’re creating a new blog post, one of the things you have to keep in mind is that your readers are not only attracted to what you write. They want to see something they like, something that catches their eye and will make them want to read what you have written. A beautiful picture or image will do just the trick. But what if you don’t want to use “just” an image? What if you want to add some text to it, or create a nice collage of images, but you have no experience with Photoshop or other image editing software? You could hire someone to do it for you, but, if you want a professional it’s going to cost you, and if you want it cheap, it might be better to do it yourself, since the quality might be just the same. Luckily there are some other options available for you where you can do it yourself and still end up with a wonderful looking image that will look great in your blog post. Once of those is Canva.com, a website I use regularly to add a touch of style to my content.
Signing up with Canva is easy: it’s free, and you can easily sign up with your Facebook or Google account. Once you’re in, the first thing you see is a page where you have a few standard sizes you can choose for. Clicking on the “more” option gives you a whole list with options in different categories. Personally I use the “social media” section the most. Images I use on my site are instantely perfectly sized for sharing on social media that way. If you want to use a different size (for example, to create a header or a background), you can do that too. Just choose custom dimensions and choose the width and height.
The fun starts once you’ve picked out the size of your image. On the next page you will find a few options that will guide you to the perfect design for you. From completed designs you can use as is, or change to your liking, to empty layouts to fill with images and design elements that you choose yourself. And the best part? A lot of the options are FREE. Of course, there are things that fall under the paid option (which comes at $1 per paid element), but up till now I have never used any of those. I’ve always been able to find what I want in the free options. The image I used in this post? Found it in their library and made no changes whatsoever. I wanted to show you an example of what you are able to find in there.
You also don’t have to worry about losing all your work. It’s saved in your account there, and free designs you’ll be able to change indefinitely. If you have one or more paid elements in your design, you have up to 24 hours to make changes. After that you can still make the changes you want, but I believe you’re required to make another payment for the paid elements.
All in all, Canva.com has been my photo editor for a few months now. I use it on all kind of sites (from informational, personal blogs, to Amazon review sites and everything in between). I’m sure you’ll find it a great source of design elements too, and even the price is perfect 😉 Have you heard about Canva.com before? Are you using it already, or are you using another tool that does what you need? Leave a comment below and share your thoughts, I’d love to hear your opinion.
